Eve: The Masterpiece
(Genesis 1 – 2:25)
When looking back on Eve, the focus is often on her “Big Mistake". Many of us, me included, have been unable to look past her eating and then offering to Adam the forbidden fruit to see two very important things: 1. The care God took in creating Eve 2. The love God showed in redeeming Eve despite her failure. Today we will study #1.
In looking at God choosing to create Eve, let’s start at the end, Genesis 2:20-23. After God created the entire universe and everything in it, he did not want man to be alone. Even after making all the animals, there was still nothing good enough for Adam. So God specifically made woman to fill a void and do a job that ONLY SHE CAN. She was not spoken into existence like the sun and stars in the sky or formed from dust like man or the animals, but created from man’s rib with God’s Hands to be his helpmate, his Beloved, one flesh...not to rule over or be inferior, but to compliment. Creation was not complete until Eve. What does God say about his creation in Genesis? She is made in His image and likeness (1:26-27), she is blessed (1:28), she is fruitful (1:28), she has been given everything she needs (1:29-30). She is created without shame (2:25). She is God’s masterpiece and she is very good (1:31).
Do you believe that you are God’s Beloved creation? Are you confident in His plans for you?
Challenge: Search the Bible for scriptures that validate that you are not here by chance, but in fact, God was very intentional in creating you. Write them in your journal. Decorate them and hang them throughout your home and in your car. Do whatever you have to do to be constantly reminded that God created you with care and purpose. Then, post your favorites to share with others in the comments and with #WomenOfTheBibleChallenge.
